Situated just 6 miles from Junction 36 of the M6, Kirkby Lonsdale is the perfect base for exploring The Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, Howgill Fells and, Morecambe Bay. It is convenient for both Sedbergh and Casterton schools. Kirkby Lonsdale has been a market town since 1227 and the Thursday market in the square has lots of interesting stalls. It’s oldest building is the beautiful Norman church, St Mary’s. A short stroll through the churchyard takes you to the famous Ruskin’s View, with its fantastic panorama of the River Lune and surrounding fells. The attractive Devils Bridge, which was built by the monks of St Mary’s Abbey in York, spans the river on the western side of the town. It is a lovely place to wander round with its narrow streets and alleyways. It has many delightful little shops including an award winning butcher and cheese shop. There are excellent places to eat and drink, both in the town and nearby.
